2016 IMVCA Spring Workshops
The IMVCA will be holding our 2016 Spring Workshops in Pocatello and Nampa again in order to reach as many of our Districts and Members as possible. The Pocatello meeting will take place on Tuesday May 17, 2016 at the Bannock County Mosquito Abatement District office and the Nampa meeting will be at the Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District office on Thursday May 19, 2016. This year, the IMVCA has some great topics to present. There will be discussions about beneficial insects and what we as Abatement Districts can do to minimize any potential impact on them. We will have updates on the NPDES/IPDES transition. And of course, we will also have more hands-on demonstrations, provide droplet testing for ULV sprayers, and conduct presentations involving topics such as Haz-Com procedures, invasive species and current vector-borne disease updates on Zika virus, West Nile virus, etc. Click on the button below to view and print the Agenda and Registration forms, we look forward to seeing everyone in May!
New Format for Spring Meetings
Our Spring Workshop model of holding two separate training sessions, one in Pocatello and one in Nampa, has been an overwhelming success since 2014! By holding two meetings, we are able to reach many seasonal technicians and smaller districts that may not otherwise be able to travel to a single meeting held on the other side of the state. Everyone who has attended has gotten a lot out of the classes as was evidenced by the great feedback we get each year. Any feedback from our membership on the format of these meetings, as well as topics to be presented, are always welcome, just contact any Board member with your ideas and suggestions.
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
NPDES
On October 31, 2011, EPA issued a final NPDES Pesticide General Permit (PGP) for point source discharges from the application of pesticides to waters of the United States. This action was in response to a 2009 decision by the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals (National Cotton Council, et al. v. EPA) in which the court vacated EPA's 2006 Final Rule on Aquatic Pesticides and found that point source discharges of biological pesticides, and chemical pesticides that leave a residue, into waters of the U.S. were pollutants under the Clean Water Act (CWA). As a result of the court's decision, NPDES permits are generally required for these types of discharges as of October 31, 2011. For all the latest on the NPDES, you can go to the EPA's website:
